🏠 Burglary Prevention Advice

Recently we have been seeing an increase in the number of burglaries that have been taking place, so we’re reminding residents to take a few simple steps to help keep homes and valuables secure. Burglars look for easy opportunities and taking small precautions can make a big difference.

🔒 Secure Your Home

Lock doors and windows 🔐 even when you’re at home or only popping out for a moment.

Keep keys out of sight 🗝️ away from letterboxes and windows.

If you have them, use UPVC door multi‑point locks properly — lift the handle and lock with the key.

Consider installing Home CCTV systems such as Ring Doorbells (or similar)

💡 Make Your Home Look Occupied

Leave a light on a timer ⏲️ if you’re out after dark.

Use external security lighting 🌙 where possible.

Avoid leaving your home in darkness for long periods.

💼 Protect Valuables

Keep high‑value items like laptops, tablets, and jewellery out of view 👀.

Don’t leave packaging for expensive items 📦 visible outside.

🌳 Garden & Perimeter Security

Ensure side gates are locked 🔐 and fences are secure.

Store tools, ladders, and bikes in locked sheds or garages 🚲🔒.

Use good-quality locks and security screws 🔧 on sheds and outbuildings.

🚗 Vehicle Security

Don’t leave car or house keys within reach of doors 🚪.

Consider steering locks, signal‑blocking pouches (Faraday pouches), and secure parking.

🤝 Look Out for Each Other

Report suspicious activity 👀 straight away.

Check on neighbours, especially if they’re away or vulnerable.

Join or follow your local Neighbourhood Watch 👥 group or messaging service.

If you are leaving your house unattended we advise that you hide any items of value that could entice a potential burglar, as this is all they may need to decide to target your house.

If you have an external garage, such as those in a garage block, then we strongly advise that you use a sturdy lock in order to secure your garage door, do not leave keys to your garage nearby and keep anything of value within you house instead.
